How have you set up your forums?

I am wondering how you set yours up.
I have done mine with descending but I find this weird and am not sure if having to go to the last page to get the new posts is the way to go. But then when I put it ascending I can't remember what the last one I read was in a long thread so I can read them backwards. But I find this weird to read too.
So does anyone remember how they had it set for the old forums?
