Citizen's Union
Hello Everyone, today, as the incumbent President of the Citizen's Union, I would like to announce a major change to the running and organisation within the union involving the committee, roles in the CU, and the long-term future of the organisation.
With the turnout and results issue during the most recent attempted committee election earlier this month, we have felt that for our success and for the union to go forward, major changes would be needed in how we are run, and how the organisation works. Currently, the committee do not have a major role within the running of the union, as most of the current slots are either not filled, or taken by the Secretary and Treasurer. With the current direction and system within the CU, the committee's role and use is not necessarily clear and required for our functioning.
To resolve this issue, and also to make sure the CU has more time to get on with the real aims within our constitution, and other delayed projects, we have come up with a new solution and system of organisation within the union. I hereby announce the creation of the CU membership system, in replacement of the committee. Instead of being elected, the people who would like to be involved within the union can apply for membership, and join us as members - from this pool of members, the Secretary and Treasurer would be chosen after a presidential election. This new scheme would also mean that those who may not usually get much of a say or voice within the union's running, can also suggest more ideas and be involved in the day-to-day programmes and schemes run by the Citizen's Union.
As this scheme is still in development, the joining process for members will be announced in due course after further discussion.
